I am a self-taught soapmaker, and been making soap 16 yrs. I love the whole process of it. Conduct soapmaking classes in Vanuatu and Fiji. Try to use only essential oils and natural ingredients in my soaps. Like the idea of everything coming from the earth. A course would cover basic soapmaking, the safety aspects.
MAKE your own Whangarei is a franchise of Lyn Webster's MAKE. She has been on TV1 and TV3 teaching others how to make their own cleaning products and cosmetics. Her website is www.pigtitsandparsleysauce.co.nz. I teach people in Whangarei from my Massage Therapy Clinic at Lifesense in the centre of town. I also teach to raise money for fundraisers for schools and clubs. Have done workshops in the past on herbal medicines in the home as well, so have ticked that option as well.

I have been teaching a "Lotions and Potions" night school class in several high schools around the country since 2005. I'm mainly a cooking teacher, but the cream and soap making classes are always more popular. I started making my own products in the 1980s when I developed severe dermatitis and an allergy to parabens. Elizabeth Franke's book on how to make your own cosmetics was my bible. I've been experimenting and passing on knowledge since then. History of cosmetics, dangers of conventional products, discussion about the price of conventional products ("fairy dust" ingredients), packaging of conventional products, making simple soap from soap flakes, making massage oils, making lip balms, making Galen's Cold Cream, making eau de Cologne, making ointments, making decorative cosmetics (lip gloss etc). I run different kinds of workshops: 2-day weekend workshops, 4-hour one-day workshops and 3-4-hour talks. The venues have been varied, to say the least: sitting on the floor of a yoga classroom using a tarpaulin and a gas cooker; in an organic shop talking in front of a seated audience in the corner of the shop while the shop was still open. Private kitchens. State-of-the art cooking venues. High-school teaching kitchens. One-on-one lessons. I'm flexible...
